Democrat Tim Walz has won a second term as Minnesota's governor, defeating Republican opponent Scott Jensen by a comfortable margin. With 99% of precincts reporting, Walz led Jensen by 53% to 45%. The victory cements Democratic control of the state, as Walz becomes the first Democrat to win three consecutive gubernatorial elections since Rudy Perpich in the 1980s.
Walz, a former congressman and teacher, has been praised for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and his commitment to progressive policies.
