MLB Trade Deadline 2023
Changing Deadline for 2023
The MLB trade deadline is set for:
- August 2, 2023 at 6:00 PM ET
The trade deadline has historically been July 31, but was moved to August 2 in 2023 as part of the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
The Sellers Stole the Show
The Miami Marlins and Tampa Bay Rays were major players at the trade deadline, selling off a number of their star players.
The Marlins traded away Pablo Lopez, Avisail Garcia, and Tanner Scott, while the Rays traded away Christian Bethancourt, David Peralta, and Joey Wendle.
These moves helped both teams free up salary space and acquire young prospects.
Time Change for 2024
For 2024, the MLB trade deadline will be moved up to July 30 at 6:00 PM ET.
This change is being made to accommodate the new schedule for the World Baseball Classic, which will be held in March and April of 2023.
2023 Major Trades
Some of the major trades that happened before the 2023 MLB trade deadline include:
- Justin Verlander to the Houston Astros
- Jordan Montgomery to the St. Louis Cardinals
- Luis Castillo to the Seattle Mariners
- Frankie Montas to the New York Yankees
